“Worship the Lord in the beauty of His holiness.” – Psalm 29:2b & 96:9 (KJV)

Holiness is beautiful to God for the same reason rainbows are beautiful to us – the refraction of light. Holiness in us is the refraction of the glory of God’s character through the prism of our personalities. We cannot be holy apart from Him anymore than the moon could shine without the sun. But, when we “put on Christ and make no provision for the flesh”(Rom. 13:14), we shine toward heaven in a splendor to take the breath away.

And, just as night skies and rainbows inspire artists’ brush and poets’ pen, so the angels are inspired to worship God when they see us arrayed in the beauty of His holiness. For it was His intent that through us, “the multicolored wisdom of God should be revealed to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 3:10).

So, shine on, brothers and sisters, shine on. Worship the Lord in the beauty of His holiness and the eye of the beholder will be awed and amazed at the glory of God’s splendor.
